The Costa Vicentina is a natural park, which means no high-rises, no beach clubs and a coastline that looks much as it did fifty years ago. Fishing villages like Odeceixe and Aljezur sit a few kilometres inland; between them are dozens of beaches that face the open Atlantic.

We stay at a converted farmhouse in a cork-oak valley, eight minutes' drive from the sea. The yoga shala looks into the trees; the pool is filled with spring water and nobody has ever complained that it's cold.
